The Bracelet Size Calculator adds your chosen fit ease to your snug wrist circumference to establish target inner circumference, then applies geometric circle compensation (pi * bead diameter) to find the true cord length and bead count.
Inner Size = Wrist + Ease; Stringing Length = Inner Size + (pi * d_bead); Beads = (Stringing Length - Clasp) / d_bead.
Outputs all measurements in both millimeters and inches so you can use millimeter beads with an inch wrist tape without manual conversion.
Review the input parameters, allowed value ranges, and worked reference cases for the Bracelet Size Calculator below before running your calculation.
| Parameter / Scenario | Default / Sample Value | Rule or Allowed Range | Output / Usage Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Input: Measurement unit | mm | Options: Millimeters (mm), Inches (in) | Required workspace parameter |
| Input: Snug wrist circumference | 165 | Range: 3 to 350 | Required workspace parameter |
| Input: Desired bracelet fit | comfort | Options: Snug fit (+6 mm / +0.25 in ease), Comfort / Standard fit (+13 mm / +0.50 in ease), Loose / Drape fit (+20 mm / +0.75 in ease) | Required workspace parameter |
| Input: Round bead diameter (0 for flat chain) | 8 | Range: 0 to 50 | Required workspace parameter |
| Worked Case 1: 8 mm stretch bracelet for a 165 mm (6.5 in) wrist (Comfort fit) | Preloaded / test values | Inner Circumference (C_in) = Wrist + Ease; Center-line Stringing Length = C_in + (pi * BeadDiameter); Bead Count = (Stringing Length - ClaspLength) / BeadDiameter | Adding 13 mm comfort ease gives a 178.0 mm (7.01 in) inner circumference. Adding pi * 8 mm (25.13 mm) for bead thickness yields a 203.13 mm (8.00 in) stringing length, requiring 25.4 -> 25 round 8 mm beads (plus ~75 mm extra cord for tying a surgeon's knot). |
| Worked Case 2: Flat chain bracelet with a 12 mm lobster clasp (165 mm wrist, Comfort fit) | Preloaded / test values | Inner Circumference (C_in) = Wrist + Ease; Center-line Stringing Length = C_in + (pi * BeadDiameter); Bead Count = (Stringing Length - ClaspLength) / BeadDiameter | With bead diameter set to 0 and clasp length set to 12 mm, target inner circumference is 178.0 mm (7.01 in) and required chain cut length is 166.0 mm (6.54 in). |
Wrap a flexible tailor's tape snugly around your wrist bone with no slack before entering your numbers.
Choose Millimeters (mm) or Inches (in) and enter your exact snug wrist circumference.
Select Snug (+6 mm / 0.25 in), Comfort (+13 mm / 0.50 in), or Loose (+20 mm / 0.75 in) fit.
Type your bead diameter (or 0 for a flat chain) and any clasp length, then click Calculate Bracelet Size.
See how bead diameter changes the required stringing length and bead count for the same wrist.
Adding 13 mm comfort ease gives a 178.0 mm (7.01 in) inner circumference. Adding pi * 8 mm (25.13 mm) for bead thickness yields a 203.13 mm (8.00 in) stringing length, requiring 25.4 -> 25 round 8 mm beads (plus ~75 mm extra cord for tying a surgeon's knot).
With bead diameter set to 0 and clasp length set to 12 mm, target inner circumference is 178.0 mm (7.01 in) and required chain cut length is 166.0 mm (6.54 in).
For a 178 mm inner size, 6 mm beads need 196.8 mm stringing length (33 beads), whereas 10 mm beads need 209.4 mm stringing length (21 beads) to maintain the same interior wrist clearance.
Distinguish between Inner Circumference (what your wrist feels) and Flat Stringing Length (what you measure on a ruler).
If you lay 8 mm beads flat along a straight ruler to 7.0 inches (178 mm) and tie them into a loop, the finished bracelet will only fit a 6.0-inch wrist because the beads curve inward. Always lay out beads on your straight ruler to the calculated Center-Line Stringing Length.
Account for spacer beads and knot tails when cutting elastic or beading wire.
The calculator adds a standard 75 mm (3.0 in) working tail to the recommended Raw Cord Cut Length so you have enough slack to tie a secure knot or attach crimp tubes.

A bracelet's inner circumference rests against your wrist at radius R, while the elastic cord passes through the center of the beads at radius R + (d/2). The circumference of that center circle is 2*pi*(R + d/2) = Inner Circumference + pi*d. Without adding pi*d, an 8 mm bead bracelet loses 25.1 mm (nearly 1 inch) of inside room.
For a close, watch-like fit, add 6 mm (0.25 in). For an everyday comfort fit, add 13 mm (0.50 in). For a loose, bangle-style drape, add 20 mm (0.75 in).
Enter the measured length of your clasp and jump rings in 'Clasp & findings length'. The calculator subtracts that hardware length from the center-line stringing length before dividing by bead diameter.
Set Round bead diameter to 0. Then the center-line length equals the inner circumference (Wrist + Ease), and subtracting clasp length gives the exact chain cut length.
